Overview
LENS (Laser Engineered Net Shaping) is a blown powder metal Additive Manufacturing method.
Blown Powder Method
In this method, a melt pool is formed by focusing a laser on the location where material will be added. A stream of metal powder suspended in a flowing carrier gas is then focused on the melt pool where the powder melts and forms a deposition melt pool. By moving this deposition melt pool over a substrate, material can be added in a prescribed manner.
