                         Magnesium Preparation


1. Attach Gekko Disc and 1200 Silicon carbide film

    Set up polisher:
         (a) 300 RPM
         (b) Time - 30 sec 
         (c) Force - 10 N
         (d) Water - On
   After grinding, if scratches aren't uniform, grind longer
   Clean
         (e) sample with water and use one of the cotton balls (it is ok to rub hard)
         (f) ring guard
         (g) mover plate
         (h) platen
         (i) throw away used carbide paper
         (j) Gekko Disc- rinse, dry off and put away

2. Attach 2000 Silicon Carbide paper

    Set up polisher:
         (a) 150 RPM
         (b) Time - 30 sec
         (c) Force - 10 N
         (d) Water - on
        
     After grinding, if scratches aren't uniform, grind longer
   Clean
         (e) sample with water and use one of the cotton balls (it is ok to rub hard)
         (f) ring guard
         (g) mover plate
         (h) platen
         (i) throw away used carbide paper
         (j) MD Plan Disc- rinse, dry off and put away

3.Attach 4000 Silicon Carbide paper

   Set up polisher:
         (a) 150 RPM
         (b) Time - 2 minutes
         (c) Force - 10 N
         (d) Water - on
       
     After grinding, if scratches aren't uniform, grind longer
   Clean
         (e) sample with water and use one of the cotton balls (it is ok to rub hard)
         (f) ring guard
         (g) mover plate
         (h) platen
         (i) throw away used carbide paper
         (j) Clean Disc- rinse, dry off and put away

4.Attach MD Mol Cloth

   Set up polisher:
         (a) 150 RPM
         (b) Time - 5 minutes
         (c) Force - 10 N
         (d) Water - off
    
     Drip 2 drops of suspension every 10 seconds and squirt DP purple lube every 20 seconds
     After grinding, if scratches aren't uniform, grind longer
   Clean
         (e) sample with water and use one of the cotton balls (it is ok to rub hard)
         (f) ring guard
         (g) mover plate
         (h) platen
         (i) throw away used carbide paper
         (j) MD Plan Disc- rinse, dry off and put away

5.Attach MD Nap Cloth

   Set up polisher:
         (a) 150 RPM
         (b) Time - 2 minutes
         (c) Force - 10 N
         (d) Water - off
    
     Drip 2 drops of suspension every 10 seconds and squirt DP purple lube every 20 seconds
     After grinding, if scratches aren't uniform, grind longer
   Clean
         (e) sample with water and use one of the cotton balls (it is ok to rub hard)
         (f) ring guard
         (g) mover plate
         (h) platen
         (i) throw away used carbide paper
         (j) MD Plan Disc- rinse, dry off and put away

6.Attach MD Chem Cloth to Labopol with platen guard

   Set up polisher:
         (a) 15 RPM
         (b) Time - 45 minutes
         (c) Force - 2.5 N
         (d) Water - off
    
     In large jar, Mix 100 ml Ethylene Glycol and 2 ml of alumina 0.05 micron stir for 3 minutes and then place on the pad
     After grinding, if scratches aren't uniform, grind longer
   Clean
         (e) sample with water and use one of the cotton balls (it is ok to rub hard)
         (f) ring guard
         (g) mover plate
         (h) platen
         (i) throw away used carbide paper
         (j) MD Plan Disc- rinse, dry off and put away
