[edit] Software Description

MTEX is a free Matlab toolbox for analyzing and modelling crystallographic structures by means of EBSD or pole figure data. This guide details the steps necessary to generate pole figures from Abaqus Crystal Plasticity simulation data. MTEX software can be downloaded from the product website[1].


Importing Data to MTEX Data is most easily imported to MTEX using the import wizard executable provided in the MTEX software package. After generating a text file of material texture data from crystal plasticity simulations, the import steps to MTEX are as follows:

1.Import Wizard – ODF Generic Interface

     a.Set ang1 to psi
     b.Set ang2 to theta
     c.Set ang3 to phi
     d.Set inpt to weight
     e.Change angle convention to Kocks (Psi, Theta, phi)
     i.Choose degree, active rotation for next two tabs
     f.Select Finish

     a.Choose ODF tab
     b.Select texture file
     c.Next

     a.Mineral – Indexed
     b.Crystal Coordinate System
             i.Point Group: m-3m

     a.Choose specmine symmetry -1 triclinic
     b.Choose second plotting convention

     a.Set Halfwidth to 5
     b.Select ODF is given by accordingly distributed orientation option

6.Import Wizard – Import Data

     a.Ensure file name matches texture file selected in step 2
     b.Select import to script (m-file)
     c.Finish

     a.Add line at end of file for plotting
             i.plotPDF(odf,Miller(#direction,#direction,#direction,CS))
            ii.#direction denotes direction of interest, i.e. 1, 0, …
     b.Run file to generate pole figure plot
