For more than a decade, CUBIT has been the focus of a broad research and development effort in mesh generation and geometry preparation at Sandia National Laboratories. For more details see CUBIT project home page

Cubit is installed at CAVS and is available to authorized users only (US citizens and permanent residents). You need to get permission to use cubit independently from the permission to use MOOSE. Contact haupt@cavs.msstate.edu to request the permission.

You can run cubits in two modes: interactively and with GUI. To run cubits login to a linux machine (bazooka, apex, etc) and type swsetup cubit.

  • to start an interactive session: type cubit &
  • to run cubit GUI: type claro &

Sandia National Lab provides a documentation and tutorials on how to use cubit in both interactive and GUI mode.

Below is a screenshot of cubit GUI running on bazooka through x-terminal on my Mac. I run it successfully on my Linux workstation, too. I have not tried Windows.
